Turning Clutter into Cash!
Musings—Jun 21, 2010
Yes, Yes, Yes!! The power and joy of yard sales is around us everywhere this time of year. A charity or non-profit organization that runs a yearly yard sale to raise much needed funds is just about the best idea since sliced bread was invented.
There are a number of groups in my county that hold yard sales, but the one held on the first Saturday in June is the largest one I know about. The SHAID animal shelter (near Bridgewater) recently held their huge annual yard sale. This event has taken place for years on the first Saturday in June in the large Exhibition Building in Bridgewater. I didn’t get there this year, but I’m sure the sunny day ensured the usual long line of eager people was standing outside waiting for the large doors to open.
There are two reasons that I love these kinds of yard sales:
1) the money raised goes to a worthwhile cause
2) it helps me—to help my clients—to help themselves, and a worthwhile cause, all at the same time
A number of my clients this year have donated large numbers of good, used items (which was clutter to them) to various charity yard sales. It’s a great solution. They get rid of things they no longer want or use, and others benefit from those items.
I encourage everyone—don’t throw away good stuff! Instead, give it to all the groups that will turn your clutter into cash for a good cause.
