What prevents us from getting organized and being ‘successful’ in our attempts.
There are a number of common themes that can prevent us from getting as organized as we’d prefer to be. Some frequent ones are:
- succumbing to the feelings of frustration with the situation, and ‘giving up’
- not knowing where to start, so don’t start at all
- becoming overwhelmed, becoming unfocused
- not knowing how to proceed, how to keep motivated
- feeling discouragement because others aren’t helping nor supporting our efforts
- procrastination
- trying to ‘figure it out’ ourselves without any guidance and support
- not having any strategy to ensure a reasonable degree of success, completion and upkeep
- not taking the time or having enough time to start and/or finish an organizing project
- experiencing financial restraints that prevent our ability to purchase simple, inexpensive items that can aid getting organized (e.g. decent clothes hangers, file folders, storage containers, etc.). Or we use items we already spent ‘good money’ on but they aren’t the appropriate ones for the job.
- experiencing a gap between ‘knowing’ what to do and actually ‘doing’ the work.
- getting organized feels like an overwhelming task (as it is for many of us).
